SmarTears® is a technology developed by Alcon Inc. and implemented in the DAILIES TOTAL1 product family.
It was introduced in 2013 and works based on the release of an ingredient that is similar to natural tears. It supports stabilizing the lipid layer of the tear film by reducing water evaporation caused by lipid layer breakup.
The ingredient phosphatidylcholine (PC) flows as needed from the lens into the tear film. An abundance of this natural ingredient helps provide hydration support even at the end of a long day.
