Contact lens users can take advantage of various purchase incentives, manufacturer rebates, special discounts, lens subscription-based deals, loyalty programs, and bulk deals to reduce the expense of buying or refilling their contact lenses.
Rebates can vary from country to country, from manufacturer to manufacturer, by lens type (e.g. multifocal or toric), and from retailer to retailer. Manufacturer rebates usually run for three to six months, whereas online deals change more frequently throughout the year.
While other manufacturers might also offer rebates, we are focusing on the major brands Acuvue (Johnson & Johnson Vision Care), Alcon, Bausch+Lomb and CooperVision. Usually, manufacturers make these rebates available through their network of eye care professionals, so next time you get an eye exam and a contact lens prescription ask whether there are any special rebates available.
The most important qualifying factor for a manufacturer rebate is not just your location but a recent eye exam and a recent purchase of a certain number of boxes (always check the rules!). Rebate amounts can be quite significant - we have even seen rebates up to $200 for a one year supply.
What is a one year supply?
Let's say you are using the ACUVUE OASYS 1-Day lens with two different powers for your left and right eye. ACUVUE OASYS 1-Day is a daily replaceable contact lens and a box usually contains 30 or 90 lenses. This means that if you purchase a total of 24 boxes (30 lenses per box) or 8 boxes (90 lenses per box), you are qualified for the rebate.
What if you don't want to go through the whole rebate process?
Purchase proof, document uploading, registration and submission - not everyone likes to go through a rebate submission process. Luckily - if you buy online - you can still save a lot of money by shopping around. Online retailers such as AC Lens, 1800 Contacts, DiscountContactLenses, LensDirect and Coastal.com regularly promote special deals.
- First-time customer discounts are a popular way to attract new customers with huge discounts. Different than seasonal offers, these discounts are usually available all year round. They often require you to enter a promo code which in most cases can be found on their homepage or at the top of each product page.
- AC Lens: As a first time customer you save 20% on your first purchase.
- DiscountContactLenses also offers 20% off when you order for the first time.
- ContactsDirect offers 15% (and sometimes 20%) off and their prices are already some of the best you can find online.
- Subscription discounts: You subscribe and get your lenses delivered automatically every three or six months. These discounts can be up to 10% - as in the case of AC Lens.
- Special sales: End of summer sale with a discount on eyeglasses.
- Free shipping for orders above $99 is available from most online retailers, e.g.

Bausch+Lomb Rebates 2023
Bausch+Lomb's program is called Horizon Rewards. It's a little bit different than the rebate programs offered by Acuvue, Alcon and CooperVision. Rather than a pre-paid credit card reward, you particapte in a points (aka tokens) program. Not only you get tokens for purchasing lenses or cleaning solutions, but also for reading certain articles or watching vision care related videos. Once you have collected enough tokens, you can redeem them for a variety of rewards such as a pre-paid credit card, gift card, a pre-loaded iTunes or a Starbucks card. You can also donate your tokens to a charity such as Optometry Giving Sight.
