Precision Profile Design is a special lens design used in multifocal contact lenses from Alcon Inc. It was introduced in 2009 and it is a combination of three lens design features:

  1. A bi-aspheric surface
  2. An adaptive minus power profile
  3. A center-near design

These three Precision Profile Design features work together with the goal to deliver clear vision and smooth transitions from near to intermediate to distance vision.

The aspheric front-surface design was introduced to enhance image quality and contrast. The aspheric back-surface supports lens centration and fit across a wide range of corneal curvatures. The adaptive minus-power profile minimizes aberrations and with additional minus-power at the periphery of the optic zone, the plus-powers can be further 'pushed' for distance vision. This helps to improve near vision without compromising distance vision and addresses one of the main challenges of multifocal contacts: To provide uninterrupted transitions from near to intermediate to distance.
