OptiBlue Light Filter is a term used by Johnson & Johnson Vision Care for their HEVL filtering feature in contact lenses. Introduced in September 2022 and - similar to TearStable Technology - OptiBlue is exclusively available in the daily-replaceable ACUVUE OASYS MAX 1-DAY product family.

Most contact lens wearers also wear glasses, and are familiar with Blue Light filters which can reduce eye strain & fatigue and improve visual performances. Did you know that 94% of consumers are bothered by light and use compensating behaviours such as squinting, shading off their eyes, and turning down screen brightness? Outdoor light is by far the largest and most intense source for HEVL and together with digital devices and indoor lighting a motivation to wear contact lenses and glasses with HEVL filtering.

According to Johnson & Johnson Vision Care, Contact Lenses with OptiBlue Light Filter:

  • Absorb 60% Blue-Light
  • Decrease light scatter by up to 20%*
  • Diminish halos by up to 30%* and starbursts by up to 23%*
*when compared to ACUVUE OASYS 1-DAY lenses.

Contact lens manufacturers have started to offer contact lenses with the ability to filter Blue Light / HEVL (High Energy Visible Light) in the blue/violet spectrum range (400-500nm range). ACUVUE OASYS with Transitions were the first ACUVUE lenses with Blue Light filtering and OptiBlue is setting the bar even higher with up to 60% of blue light being filtered out.
