1-DAY ACUVUE MOIST vs DAILIES TOTAL1
This comparison covers one of the most popular ACUVUE lenses, 1-DAY ACUVUE® MOIST, and Alcon's top silicone hydrogel lens, DAILIES TOTAL1. First, let's have a look at the basic prescription parameters. 1-DAY ACUVUE® MOIST and DAILIES TOTAL1 are daily disposable contact lenses with sphere powers from -12.00D to +6.00D and 0.25 steps in the popular -6.00D to +6.00D range. While DAILIES TOTAL1 can be fitted with just one base curve, 1-DAY ACUVUE® MOIST is available in two different base curves. An advantage eye care practitioners enjoy in the fitting process.
Both lenses are based on a spherical lens design with a similar center thickness. The remaining technical parameters couldn't be more different though. 1-DAY ACUVUE® MOIST is an ionic hydrogel lens, and DAILIES TOTAL1 is a silicone hydrogel lens. Hence, DAILIES TOTAL1's ability to let oxygen pass through the lens (measured by the oxygen transmission value) is 156Dk/t compared to 33Dk/t in the ACUVUE® MOIST. The slightly cheaper and UV blocking ACUVUE® MOIST's water content is 58% supported by an additional wetting agent for increased comfort (LACREON technology). While Alcon's water content appears to be low, it's a value measured at the core of the lens. This value increases to 80% at the surface of the lens, thanks to Alcon's SmarTears technology.
